The Best Way to Polish Silver Plated Items
- 1). Place a sheet of aluminum foil in the bottom of a ceramic or glass bowl large enough for you to place your silver-plated jewelry and other small items on the bottom.
- 2). Fill the bowl with warm water. Add 4 tablespoons of salt and a squirt of liquid dish soap.
- 3). Set the tarnished silver-plated pieces on top of the aluminum foil at the bottom of the bowl and leave them for several minutes. Watch the tarnish magnetizing off as a result of a natural chemical reaction.
- 4). Remove your items from the bowl when you are happy with the result. Wipe them clean with a cloth and dry them with a soft towel.
- 1). Immerse a sponge in hot water and squeeze it to get rid of some of the water. Add a squirt of liquid dish soap to the sponge.
- 2). Wipe the silver-plated item with the sponge.
- 3). Rinse the item under warm running water and wipe it dry with a soft towel.
- 4). Apply silver polishing cream to the entire surface of the item, using a soft, dry cloth. Rub the polish into the item, taking care to apply only light pressure so that you do not risk rubbing off the silver plate.
- 5). Work the polish into any corners or crevices with a cotton swab or a small, soft-bristled toothbrush, such as a child's toothbrush. Buff the item with a clean soft cloth to achieve a gleaming finish.
