    The Best Man

    • The best man traditionally begins the toasting of the couple. His toast should be loud and clear, but he should confirm everyone has a drink before beginning his toast. The best man's speech should be humorous, honest and sweet while sharing a memory or story about the couple that is sincere and memorable.

Although most toasts should not exceed three minutes, it is okay for the best man to go over a little bit. Once he has shared his story, he should conclude his speech by toasting the couple with heartfelt words while he looks at them directly. Overall, the best man should make everyone laugh and cry with him in celebration of the couple.

    The Bride and Groom

    • Once the best man has toasted the couple, the groom should take the microphone, if there is one, or tap his glass to gain the attention of the guests.

The groom should thank the bride's parents first, for their support and giving him the greatest gift of all, their daughter. He should thank his own parents for giving him life and making him the man he is. Finally, he should compliment and toast his bride.

If the bride wishes to toast her husband, she may do so at this point. Otherwise, they can open the floor to whomever else wishes to toast the couple.

    Father of the Bride

    • The toasts should conclude with the father of the bride. He should share a story or two about his little girl, and toast the groom as he passes the responsibility of caring for his daughter to his new son-in-law. The bride's father should conclude his toast by thanking all of the guests for their attendance.
