Pinterest - Where"s the Beef?

Pinterest, the new darling of the social network is getting huge numbers of new followers and has perked a lot of talk about copy-write issues and I'll offer my two cents in a future post to come.
Today I want to know "where's the beef?" I've read article after article about whether it is legal to post certain images or re-post images and how the Pinterest terms of service is good or bad and the controversy will go on till the suites in the ivory towers figure it all out.
Again, my concern here or question is "Where's the Beef?" I mean where is there more than an image of some decorated table or an image of a great new dish? I must say there are a few Pinners who pin some images of things that are important to our society like breast cancer, and obesity but where is the meat that goes with the potatoes? I see pretty pictures but what do they mean to the person pinning? There is a comment area under the image and very few pinners will make a comment.
If this image of a cute little puppy perked some sort of emotion in you, tell the world how you feel and then others can reply as to the emotion that they felt when they saw the image.
That's real interaction and I do believe that may have been what the original idea was all about and not just a barrel of pictures being passed around for everyone to oooo and aaaah over.
Pinterest has a huge potential to be a place where we can interact with others who have similar interests but it can also be a place where we can speak out about important issues through imagery.
As they say "a picture is worth a thousand words" but by adding a few words to the image it can make a real statement.
As I write this post I feel that I must give some credit to a few Pinterest pinners who seem to understand the potential of the medium.
Top of my list is I Spot Deals, http://pinterest.

.
They add a comment to every post and I must admit I like the style of the comments.
Some are humorous and others to the point.
They have pinned about some important issues such as Childhood Obesity and Childhood Brain tumors with links to sites that can inform or offer help.
These are important things to talk about more so than how to set a pretty dinning table.
Another pinner who has found time to make comment on a lot of her pins is Paige Crystal (poofyhead/).
She has taken the important issue of Breast Cancer and pinned images with important content about this terrible disease.
That is how people can use this new social medium to really make a difference.
There are a few users on the site who, whether they know it or not, can make a huge impact due to the number of followers they have and it is to those that I encourage you to take issue with things that matter in our society more so than just pretty pictures.
Pin to your followers to make a difference.
It's OK to pin ideas to decorate your home or what top goes with what skirt but I do firmly believe you really don't have anything till you add the beef to the sandwich.
