How to Remove a Drain Spud
- 1). Set a bucket underneath the P-trap located at the bottom of the drain.
- 2). Unscrew the couplings at the top and bottom of the P-trap with a pair of pliers or by hand.
- 3). Pull the P-trap out of the sink plumbing. Empty the contents into the bucket.
- 4). Unscrew the spud on the underside of the drain with a spud wrench or channel lock pliers. Pull the spud off the end of the tailpiece.
- 1). Separate the shower surround from the drain pan with a reciprocating saw. In some surround showers, you may be able to pull the shower stall away from the pan if you unfasten it from the walls.
- 2). Unscrew the drain cover from the top of the drain in the bottom of the pan.
- 3). Lift the pan up and out of the shower. Use a pry bar, if needed.
- 4). Turn the pan over to reveal the drain spud nut.
- 5). Loosen the drain spud by turning it counterclockwise with a spud wrench or pliers.
