How to Put in a Drainage Pipe

    • 1). Mark the home's main sewer line where the new sewer pipe will join into it. Make a second mark 2 inches along the pipe from the first mark. Use a handsaw or circular saw to make straight cuts through the line at both marks (the cuts will be parallel with each other). Scrape away all burrs from the cuts using a utility knife.

    • 2). Brush PVC primer around both outside ends of the pipe cuts. Then prime both inside ends of a PVC connecting coupling. Brush PVC cement to all four primed areas. Quickly push both ends into the coupling, positioning the coupling's side spout up and in the direction of the water fixture. Hold the pipes to the coupling for 5 seconds while the cement hardens.

    • 3). Measure and cut to length the first section of PVC sewer pipe. Remove all burrs. Prime one outside end of the pipe, and the inside end of the coupling's side spout. Cement both primed areas, and push the pipe end into the spout. Hold in place for 5 seconds.

    • 4). Cut the second section of PVC pipe to length and scrape off burrs. Prime one of its ends and the remaining end of the first pipe section. Also prime the inside of a PVC coupling. Brush cement on all three primed areas. Push the coupling onto the end of the first pipe, and the push the second pipe into the other end of the coupling. Hold in place for 5 seconds. Now cut and install all necessary PVC pipe sections in like fashion until the pipeline reaches the water fixture.
