• If you come across a scarab beetle amulet, you can make it into any number of accessories. Attach a clasp to it with hot glue and string it with a chain to create a key chain, a necklace, or a bracelet. In a similar manner, you can use a hot glue gun to attach a pin and create a brooch. The brooch can later be added to a shirt for embellishment, used to hold the ends of a shawl together at your chest, or pinned to a hat for added interest. A small enough scarab amulet can be attached to a ring and, if you have no qualms about it, you can split a larger amulet in half and make earrings.
  
  

Crafts with Kids

• Working with a scarab beetle is a great way to teach children about how important customs were to the people of Ancient Egypt. You can have the kids make beetles out of the rounds of egg cartons, using gold acrylic paint to give them the appearance of having been made out of gold rock. Another option is to print a template of the scarab beetle that has numerous pieces, and have them use yarn to string the pieces together after they have colored them in gold and a few of their favorite other colors. The finished pieces can be used as jewelry, mobiles, and window hangings.
  
  

Rock Carvings

• As they did in ancient Egypt, you can carve your very own scarab beetle out of a rock if you are proficient in rock carving. Even if you are a novice, the scarab beetle is a great project to begin with because of the nature of the design. Begin with a smooth oval rock, and you will have little more to do than carve out the head and closed wings with a rotary tool attached to a grinding disc; then, switch to a sanding tool to smooth the whole thing out. Finally, paint with gold spray or acrylic paint.
  
  

Other Options

• If you have multiple gold rock scarab beetles at your disposal, you can use them and a hot glue gun to decorate typical household items and give them a whole new look. Try adding them to a picture frame, to the center of each shelf on a book cabinet, and to cabinet pulls. You can also use them in floral arrangements, and create a centerpiece for your dining room table with the scarab at the forefront.
