Fitness Through Thoughts: What You Believe About Exercising Affects Your Behavior And Actions

103 11
I remember seeing my father's belly get bigger and bigger through his 30s.
I wondered if this was the norm as far as people reaching a certain age.
Now, back when I was a teen, I thought people in their 30s were old.
Heck, I think all teens did and probably still do.
My father didn't believe in exercise.
I mean he did it while he was in the Army, because he had to.
Though, later in his military career it wasn't a requirement.
So he stopped.
He also falsely believed that when people reached their 30s, they would stop exercising.
He thought it was some sort of natural occurrence.
This he told me time and again regarding what I would do too.
Well, now I'm at the age where those that were my father's age at the time would be young enough to be my children.
I still exercise just as much as when I was in the Marines.
And can outperform physically than the majority of the U.
S.
population.
Though, that doesn't seem much of a challenge today.
There are few exceptions, but for the most part, we're a fat nation.
You may have seen the recent stats on the average weight of Americans today versus 20 years ago.
We're about 20 pounds heavier.
Women weigh on average 160 pounds and men around 197.
Heck, I weight 160.
Most of these people even think they look good.
Though, if you're surrounded by similar sized people, then you won't look out of place.
It's like the old saying, "Birds of a feather flock together.
" Let's see how you can go about changing the way you think in order to get fit.
Let's start with the last sentence in the previous paragraph.
Who we associate with the most will have a profound effect on your behavior.
If you're always around people who live an unhealthy lifestyle, guess what? You're going to adopt similar behavior.
People for the most part, tend to follow the crowd.
So if you want to get healthy and fit, then who should you hang around more often? Yes, people who are healthy and fit.
What you read also affects what you believe.
If you simply buy books and magazines related to health and fitness, it'll go a long way towards how you think.
Think of it as kind of a new religion.
It will be the religion of a healthy body which leads to a healthy mind.
Now, you don't have to get overly-obsessed with it.
Just get to the point where you develop a healthy lifestyle.
Developing the mindset of an athlete will help too.
You see, athletes realize that they need to train to stay fit and have the right combinations of nutrition to be effective.
That includes feeding their cells so they multiply and for fueling the body for performance.
One of the things about getting to a healthy and fit body is not where you're at now, but where you want to get to.
Imagine that you are somewhere in the future and are fit and feeling it fully.
What would your day feel like? How would you spend it? What kind of life would you have? Who would your friends be? What would you be doing? Once you answer these questions, then imagine as if it were real.
Then take the actions necessary to get to that point by planning backwards to the present, and then go for it.
So let's go back over the points that will help you to get to a fitness mindset: · Associate with fitness-minded people.
This includes personal trainers and athletes.
· Start reading fitness related material.
Also, watch videos and listen to audios too.
· Think like an athlete.
Associating with athletes, as stated in the first point, will help you.
· Create your future in your mind.
Imagine that it's already happening and then make it so.
· Start exercising.
This will also get you to change how you believe.
Action always does that.
You have the power in your hands to change how you think about fitness.
This will lead to the actions and behaviors you do.
I wish you a healthy and fit life.
