How to Make a Pop Up Calendar
- 1). Stack 7 pieces of 11-by-17-inch plain paper. Fold the stack in half so the shorter sides touch. Unfold and staple along the folded center line, putting one staple on the left side and another on the right. Close the folded pages like a book, with the stapled, folded edge on the left side.
- 2). Open a word processing program on a computer. Make a grid on the document that has 7 columns and 7 rows. Center the grid in the middle of the page, leaving 1-1/2 inches of space at the top and bottom. Set the document settings so it will print with half-inch margins at the top and bottom.
- 3). Enter the names of the days of the week in the top row of the grid, starting with "Sunday" and ending with "Saturday." Copy and paste the grid onto 12 additional pages (you will make 13 pages, with an additional January for the following year.) Type in the name of the appropriate month above the grid on every page, centering the type. Check on an already made calendar to see on what day of the week January 1 falls on. Fill in the "1" on the January grid of the calendar you are making accordingly, then fill out the rest of the numbers for January and all other months. Print the 13 pages on plain 8.5-by-11-inch paper.
- 4). Stack the printed pages face down. Fold the stack in half so the shorter sides touch. Crease and unfold. Turn the stack face up with the month on the top of the page. Fold the bottom inch up. Crease and unfold.
- 5). Make a faint pencil mark on the bottom edge of the top page a half inch in from the left and right sides. Cut through all pages, starting at the left mark and cutting to the left edge of the paper where the bottom fold is. You will be cutting off the left corner of the papers. Do the same on the right side.
- 6). Make additional marks 5 inches in from each side. Cut through the stack of papers, starting at the left mark and cutting to the center fold at the point where the bottom fold meets it. Repeat, starting at the right mark. You will be cutting out a triangle from the center of the papers.
- 7). Open the booklet of 11-by-17-inch papers to the first page. Place the first January page so that it stands upright across the booklet, with the folded bottom tab flush against the open booklet pages and in the center of the pages, perpendicular to the booklet's vertical fold. The center fold of the calendar grid will jut forward and the folded bottom tab will fold out in front of the grid (not behind). Glue underneath the tab to attach the grid to the booklet. Hold in place for several seconds for the glue to set.
- 8). Continue attaching the monthly calendar grids across each set of open pages, being sure to put the months in order. Close and then open the calendar to see a month pop up. Display the pop-up calendar by keeping it open to the page with the current month.
