    • 1). Add a chelating agent to the swimming pool. A chelating agent is a mineral treatment that will attract and stick to metals in the water so they can be easily filtered. It comes in a package as a powder and can be bought at any pool supplies store. This alone will remove most of the sulfur. Refer to the package for directions.

    • 2). Add pool shock to the swimming pool or pool pump. Refer to the instructions on the package for specific use. Some pool shocks come with chlorine and others do not. If the pool shock has chlorine in it, you can skip step 3.

    • 3). Add chlorine to the swimming pool. Chlorine will kill bacteria and algae in the water. It's a good idea to add chlorine to your pool on a regular basis to keep it clean and prevent sulfur buildup from occurring again.

    • 4). Brush and vacuum your pool to get rid of any buildup on the floor and walls of the swimming pool. This should also be done a regular basis to keep the pool as clean as possible.
