Ford F-150 Pickup Truck Airbag Recall
F-150 Pickup Truck Airbag Recall
UPDATE: April 14, 2011 | Ford announced today that it's adding another 1.2 million F-150 trucks to the recall (2004 - 2006) and about 16,000 Lincoln Mark LT pickup trucks.February 23, 2011 | Ford will recall nearly 150,000 F-150 trucks to check out a potential problem that could allow airbags to needlessly deploy. The recall involves 2005 and 2006 Ford F-150 pickup trucks sold in the United States (135,000) and Canada (9,000).
Ford determined that a wire in the steering wheel may not have been properly installed. A warning light can come on if the wire short-circuits, and result in airbag deployment if the warning is ignored.
Owners have reported that airbags deployed almost immediately after starting up their trucks. Seventy-seven people have been injured. The NHTSA recommended that Ford recall a total of 1.3 million vehicles, but the automaker feels the wiring issue is primarily the result of trucks built during specific shifts at the Norfolk Assembly Plant.
Ford will mail recall letters to F-150 truck owners in March, 2011.
