Video: Skin Pigmentation & Lip Waxing
Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Erin Hendley professional makeup artist, and today I'm here to discuss with you skin pigmentation and lip waxing. Why do those 2 things go together; this is why. So sometimes when we wax our upper lip or any area on their face but particularly this one. The sun can be an important factor in why your lip maybe has turned pigmented and this is because when we're waxing hair above a sensitive area we're often irritating the top layer of the skin. In the sun when we step out into it is triggering the melanin production that's going on in the skin and it can often produce pigment to protect itself. So the big important factor here is that we need to wear sunscreen and that's what we're going in with. Now if you don't wear sunscreen that's why this is super important to use, probably an SPF 45 of above and some people already do use sunscreen and it is a problem, the best advice for that is either A just to stop waxing or B to just constantly reapply that sunscreen because it's really just a sign that your skin is still functioning and well because it is providing pigment to protect your skin. So it's secretly a good sign but if you want to continue to wax then you really just need to reapply that sunscreen constantly or just stay out of the sun more than you normally go in. So we're just coating the area and you can discuss with your dermatologist-specific sunscreens for this and he can prescribe or she can prescribe something particular for this condition. It's actually a quite common one so a lot of women want to know this stuff. So just coat it where the pigmentation might arise. I'm Erin Hendley, and I just showed you how to use sunscreen to prevent skin pigmentation when tanning.
