How to Use an ATI Radeon X1050 to Convert VHS Tapes to DVD

    • 1). Place the VHS player next to the PC. Plug one end of the S-Video cable into the S-Video output on the back of the VHS player. Plug the other end of the S-VHS cable into the S-Video input on the X1050. Plug the red and white RCA plugs on one end of the audio cable into the red and white RCA inputs on the back of the VHS player. Plug the miniplug end of the audio cable into the miniplug audio input on the X1050.

    • 2). Turn on the VHS player. Eject the cassette tray. Place the VHS tape that you want to copy to DVD into the cassette tray. Close the cassette tray.

    • 3). Download a DVD capture and burn program, such as the free WinAVI Video Convertr program, to the PC's desktop. Double-click the file once it has fully downloaded. Follow the menu commands to install the program onto the PC's hard drive. Restart the PC after the installation has been completed.

    • 4). Eject the DVD drive's disc tray. Place a blank recordable DVD onto the disc tray. Close the disc tray. Launch the DVD capture and burn program by selecting it from the "Start," "All Applications" pop-up menu.

    • 5). Select "Graphics Card" or "Card Input" from the "Devices" drop-down menu at the top of the DVD capture and burn program's main screen. Click on the "Options" button at the top of the DVD capture and burn program's main screen.

    • 6). Click on the "S-Video" checkbox. Select the "Video" tab at the top of the new window that appears. Click the "S-Video" checkbox. Select the "Audio" tab at the top of the new window that appears. Click the "Stereo" checkbox. Click "Apply" at the bottom of the window. Close the window by clicking on the "OK" button at the bottom of the window.

    • 7). Press the "Play" button on the VHS player. Click on the "Video Capture" button at the top of the DVD capture and burn program's main screen to start copying the VHS tape as a digital file.

    • 8). Press the "Stop" button at the top of the DVD capture and burn program's main screen when the VHS tape has finished playing. Press the "Stop" button on the VHS player. Eject the cassette tray. Remove the VHS tape. Close the cassette tray. Turn the VHS player off. Remove the S-Video cable and the audio cable from the VHS player and from the X1050.

    • 9). Click on the "Burn" button at the top of the DVD capture and burn program's main screen. Select the DVD drive from the "Devices" or "DVD drive" drop-down menu on the window that appears. Select "4X" or "6X' from the "Speed" or "DVD burn speed" drop-down menu on the window. Name the DVD in the "Name" column at the top of the window. Click the "Burn" or "Start Burn" button at the bottom of the window to close the window and return to the DVD capture and burn program's main screen.

      Wait as a progress bar fills in from left to right at the bottom of the DVD capture and burn program's main screen. Quit the DVD capture and burn program when the progress bar is completely filled in and after you have clicked on the "Finished" button on the pop-up window. Eject the DVD drive's disc tray. Remove the DVD from the disc tray. Close the disc tray.
