Turf Removal
- 1). Wet the turf down a few days before you want to remove it. This will soften the soil and make it easier to work with. Use a hose or sprinkler system to thoroughly saturate the ground.
- 2). Use the edge of a spade to cut the turf into 1 foot wide strips. These smaller pieces will be easier to remove than the larger pieces that you installed.
- 3). Lift the edge of the first strip of sod with the edge of the spade. Cut through any roots that may be connecting the sod to the ground and try to shake off any loose soil. Pry up the entire strip of turf using the spade.
- 4). Use your hands to roll up the strip of turf and place it wherever you are going to dispose of it. Wear gloves during this process.
- 5). Repeat the steps above for each strip of turf on your lawn until it is all removed.
