How to Fix a Pool Screen
- 1). Remove the spline from around the four sides of the damaged pool screen with the needle-nose pliers. To remove the spline, grasp the end of the spline with the needle nose pliers and pull the spline toward the section of spline still installed in the aluminum framework. This will reduce the chances of the spline tearing as you remove it.
- 2). Push the pool screen inward to free the damaged screen from the aluminum frame.
- 3). Set the new fiberglass screen into the opening, with the two corner edges protruding 3/4 inch past the spline recess located on the aluminum frame.
- 4). Press the end of the rubber spline into the spline recess with the side of the spline tool that has a pointed wheel.
- 5). Pull the loose section of the fiberglass screen down and work the spline into the recess to hold the screen in place.
- 6). Cut the rubber spline with the utility knife when you reach the end of the spline recess.
- 7). Stretch the fiber glass screen toward the spline recess parallel to the side of the screen you secured earlier. Secure the fiberglass screen as described in the earlier steps.
- 8). Install the spline into the upper screen recess. You will notice slack in the fiberglass screen.
- 9). Pull the fiberglass screen toward the ground. Install the spline into the bottom spline recess.
- 10
Run the grooved wheel of the spline tool around the installed spline to force the spline into the recess. Make sure that all the spline is secured before continuing to Step 11. - 11
Cut the excess fiberglass screen from the opening by dragging the tip of the utility knife blade along the edge of the spline furthest from the screened in opening to complete the installation.
