Microsoft Word 2002 Tutorial
- 1). To launch Word 2002, click "Start" > "Programs" > "Microsoft Word."
- 2). Set Word to save copies of your file. Select "Tools" > "Options." On the "Save" tab, check "Always create backup copy." Check "Save AutoRecover info every..." and specify a save interval in minutes. Click "OK."
- 3). Display additional toolbars. By default, Word 2002 shows the Standard and Formatting toolbars. To add others, select "Tools" > "Customize." On the "Toolbars" tab, click the checkboxes next to the toolbars you want to add. Click "Close."
- 4). Add commands to toolbars. Select "Tools" > "Customize." On the "Commands" tab, under "Categories," highlight a category to view available commands. Under "Commands," click a command and drag it out of the dialog box to the toolbar where you want it to appear. Click "Close."
- 5). If desired, hide the Office Assistant. This animated Help feature, which looks like a paper clip with eyes, offers assistance according to what it thinks you're doing. If you find this annoying, right-click the Office Assistant and select "Options." Uncheck "Use the Office Assistant." Click "OK." To redisplay the Office Assistant, click "Help" > "Show the Office Assistant."

If you have just opened Word 2002, a blank document will appear. Begin typing. - 2). To open a new, blank document at any time, click "File" > "New." In the task pane at the right of the screen, under "New," click "Blank Document."
- 3). To open and modify an existing document, click "File" > "Open." Double-click on a file to open it.
- 4). Apply formatting. To format text, select it and click an icon on the Formatting toolbar, such as "B" for bold. To change paragraph-level settings like spacing, indentation and alignment, click "Format" > "Paragraph" and select formatting options, then click "OK." Use the "View" menu to add headers and footers, and use the "Insert" menu for page numbering.
- 5). Save your document frequently so you don't lose your changes. Click "File" > "Save." To create a copy with a different name, click "File" > "Save As..." In the dialog box, next to "File name," type a new name for the document. Click "Save."

Preview the printed document. Select "File" > "Print Preview." To close the preview window, click "Close" on the toolbar. - 2). Print the document. Click "File" > "Print." Make sure the correct printer is selected. Under "Page range," specify which pages to print. Click "OK."
- 3). Save your work, then close the document by clicking "File" > "Close." To exit Word, click the "x" in the upper right-hand corner of the window.
