How to Find Inspiration to Paint on Canvas
- 1). Set up your canvas with the paints ready nearby so you are ready to paint whenever the mood strikes you. If you stretch your canvas, do it ahead of time so you don't have the interruption when you are inspired to paint. Alternatively, purchase pre-stretched canvases, although this can be more expensive.
- 2). Display your paintings as soon as you are finished. A benefit to painting on canvas is that you don't have to frame it. You can hang it from string or simply set it on a windowsill as soon as you are done with it. If you are feeling overwhelmed with how much work you have yet to do, knowing it is ready to display as soon as you decide you are done can make it less intimidating. If you have an empty canvas in front of you and paints handy, all you need to do is paint and you will have a finished product.
- 3). Find inspiration in your daily life, and don't get discouraged if you haven't painted for a long time. Even when you aren't painting, you are still collecting inspiration for your next work. Look at your life as gathering data for your next painting instead of procrastinating. Look at the details, textures and colors or things that interest you and you will soon find more then enough to paint. Recording these thoughts in a notebook may be a helpful way to remember them.
