How to Add a File to iPhone Mail

    Preparation

    • 1). Launch iTunes on your computer. You use iTunes to manage your iPhone.

    • 2). Connect your iPhone to a USB port on your computer with the iPhone's included USB cable. The iPhone's icon will appear under "Devices" in the left pane of the iTunes window.

    • 3). Click on "iTunes Store." Click in the search box, type the name of a third-party app, such as "FileApp," "Documents to Go" or "Group Email! With Attachments," and then hit "Enter" to search for the app. You can also type "attachments" in the search box to find apps that can email attachments.

    • 4). Download the app to your computer and then drag it onto the icon of your iPhone in the left pane of the iTunes application window to copy it to the iPhone.

    • 5). Click on the icon of your iPhone. Click the "Apps" tab at the top of the iTunes window. Scroll to the bottom of the window to the "File Sharing" section, where you will see a list of all the apps on your iPhone that you can use to transfer files between your computer and the device. Click on the name of the third-party app you just downloaded to select it. The name of that app will appear above the documents window on the right.

    • 6). Drag a file, such as a spreadsheet or a text document from a folder on your hard drive, into the documents window in iTunes. The file will transfer over to your iPhone, which you can access using the third-party app.

    Attach a File to Email

    • 1). Press the "Home" button to go to the home screen on your iPhone.

    • 2). Tap the icon of the third-party app you are using for transferring files to the iPhone from your computer via iTunes.

    • 3). Tap a button to see the list of files that you transferred from your computer. Tap a file to open it. Tap the action icon, which has an arrow, to bring up the options screen. Tap "Email Document." Depending on the third-party app you are using, you might also be able to tap an option to create a new email message and then tap an "Attachments" option to select a file to attach to the message.

    • 4). Tap the "To" field to select it. Type the email address of your recipient or tap the plus sign to access your contacts list and then tap the name of a contact to automatically copy the email address into the "To" field. Tap "Send" to send the email with the attached file.

    • 5). Press the "Home" button to return to the home screen. Tap the "Photos" icon on the home screen to launch the Photos app if you want to send an email with an attached photo or video. Tap an album to see a list of its photos or videos. Tap the thumbnail of a photo or a video to see it. Tap the action icon, shaped like an arrow, and then tap "Email Photo" or "Email Video." Tap the "To" field to select it and then type the email address of your recipient, or tap the plus sign to access your contacts list and then tap the name of a contact to automatically copy the email address into the "To" field. Tap "Send" to send the email with the attached photo or video.
