How to Make a Fire Pit Out of Cement
- 1). Dump the play sand into a large pile on the plastic tarp. Shape the sand into a tall, 4-foot-high and 3-foot-wide, evenly proportioned oval mound with your hands. Mist the final form with water until the sand is damp.
- 2). Put on the breathing mask and rubber gloves. Dump the dry cement in the wheelbarrow and mix it with water, using the trowel, until the cement is the consistency of pudding.
- 3). Apply the cement to the outside of the sand mound with the trowel, maintaining a wall thickness of two inches.
- 4). Flatten the top of the cement mound with the wooden board to create a flat surface for the fire pit to rest upon.
- 5). Let the cement dry for 48 hours. Pull the cement from the sand mound. Wash away any sand from the cement using the garden hose. Place the fire pit on the piece of flagstone on a brick or cement patio, and fill the pit with wood or coals for a fire.
