    • 1). Read the LDS articles of faith and the Ten Commandments.

    • 2). Notice the different genres. The LDS articles of faith are a comprehensive statement of belief for Mormons. The Ten Commandments are presented as God's words but are not intended to communicate everything that should be believed about God.

    • 3). Notice the different speakers. The LDS articles of faith are written about God, the Ten Commandments are spoken by God.

    • 4). Compare both documents to all of Scripture. The Ten Commandments are held up as normative in the rest of the Bible while the LDS articles of faith contain references to at least two things not mentioned in the Bible -- the book of Mormon and the American continent. Look for other differences and similarities.

    • 5). Study the history of each. The Ten Commandments are a foundation document of the early nation of Israel. The LDS articles of faith are a foundational document for the Mormon church.
