    • 1). Sketch out your ideas for your pixel doll figure. Generally, these figures are nonrealistic with exaggerated proportions for eyes and head.

    • 2). Scan your sketch into your computer, saving it as a JPEG.

    • 3). Open GIMP. Select "File" from the menu and choose "New." In the dialog that appears, set the pixel width and height to what you want for your dolls. Click "OK."

    • 4). Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open as Layers." In the dialog that appears, locate the image you scanned in and open it. Click on the "New Layer" button under the "Layers" palette.

    • 5). Select the "Path" tool from the tools. Use it to draw out the shape of the doll. To make the curves smoother, hold down the "ALT" key and click on the points of the path. Drag the bars on either side to adjust the curve.

    • 6). Click on the "Stroke Path" button on the lower left. In the dialog that appears, choose the "Line Width" you want and click "OK." Click on the "New Layer" button.

    • 7). Repeat steps 5 and 6 to create the features of the doll, such as the hair and eyes.

    • 8). Use this same technique to create items of clothing for the figure, placing each item on its own layer. Save your work.

    • 9). Change the clothing by clicking on the "Eyes" next to the layers, hiding certain layers and revealing others. Save a particular clothing arrangement you want to use as a JPEG.
