Get Engaged (Again) On Valentine"s Day! Ask Your Love to Renew Your Perfect Marriage Vows

103 4
People generally do vow renewals for one of two reasons, if they do them at all:
  1. They're celebrating a major anniversary
  2. They're overcoming a major obstacle
They're both great reasons for a celebration.
Refocusing attention on your marriage commitment and asking for community blessing and support will strengthen it.
And there's not a marriage around that couldn't use a bit of celebration.
More people should consider this -- we're a long way from too much celebration in this world! But before you consider the vows, why not start with the love and romance? However many years ago, you got married because you were wildly in love.
Remember what that felt like? Remember what you loved and cherished about your partner.
You want to (and you can!) recapture that wonderful feeling before you renew your wedding vows.
Here's the deal: Valentine's Day is not all that far away.
Make a reservation somewhere special NOW.
Plan a wonderful meal at home.
(Don't invite the Kids!) And start your campaign to rekindle the romance.
  • Notice the things about your partner that you love and respect.
    Comment on them.
  • Stop noticing and commenting on the things about your partner that annoy you.
It never works to improve them.
  • Start being more affectionate.
Reach out to hold hands while walking or sitting together on couch.
  • Take the opportunity to be in one another's company more frequently.
  • Look at your partner's face and really listen when he or she talks.
  • Invite your partner on dates.
They don't need to be fancy.
A walk or a movie will do.
  • Spend some time kissing your partner with all the love you feel.
  • Make space that's just about the two of you and not the family, church, job, working out...
  • Say I love you, and not in that old reflexive way.
Stop and think about it and mean it.
  • Find what makes life more fun and more exciting between you and repeat it!
And then pop (repop?) the question! Get a new ring if you want, or simply have been smart enough to grab the rings to get them "cleaned" and use the old ones.
This is not about spending money, it's about going deeper into a relationship that has sustained and challenged you for a long time.
And then you can plan your renewal ceremony or your second wedding ceremony together, secure that you're renewing and celebrating the love that fuels the commitment.
No one deserves this more than you and your marriage.
