Your Heart Rate: Is It Too Fast Or Too Slow?

103 9
A normal heart rate is 60-100 beats a minute.
This means you are healthy and life should be great...
given that you have no blood pressure problems.
If you do not have a normal heart rate it is known as an arrhythmia.
The heart is a pump made up of muscle tissue.
As with all pumps, the heart too needs a source of energy to function.
The heart pumps because it has a built-in electrical conduction system.
Arrhythmias cause problems by not allowing enough blood from being pumped out to the body because the electrical signal is causing the heart to pump too slowly or too irregularly.
But when your heart beats faster than 100 beats per minute, then it is abnormal.
It is a condition called trachycardia - (trachy means fast and cardia refers to the heart).
A very slow heart beat below 60 beats a minute is known as brachycardia.
This makes you dizzy and fatigued with some breathing diffculties..
Where in the heart does the electric circuit occur? It depends: if it occurs in the upper chambers of the heart or the lower chambers (ventricles) of the heart, there are serious implications.
Another factor to consider is: Is the heart beat abnormality steady e.
g.
is it constantly low at 40 beats a minute? Or is it chaotic e.
g.
it is irregular at let's say 110 and then 120 and then back to 108 beats a minute? If this is the case it may be a type of fibrillation or quivering heart beat.
The worst kind of heartbeat to have is the ventricular fibrillation or VF, which is characterized by irregular and chaotic heartbeats.
This is because in this case the ventricular muscle (the lower chamber) in the heart cannot contract and pump blood to the brain and vital organs.
VF is the number one cause of sudden cardiac death.
If, on the other hand, the trachycardia originates in the upper chambers, then it is not dangerous.
However, if episodes happen frequently, the heart muscle can be weakened over time.
What are the causes of arrhythmia? This is unclear but it is related to heart disease, stress, caffeine, tobacco, alcohol, or cough and cold medicines that contain decongestants.
How to Diagnose? The most common way is the ECG which measures the electrical activity of the heart.
Treatment: Arrhythmias may not cause any problems so treatment isn't always needed.
It all depends on the type of arrhythmia, the severity of symptoms and the presence of other conditions like diabetes or heart problems.
My advice to you is to 1.
Get it diagnosed as quickly as possible so that you do not get over-anxious and stressed and thereby worsen the problem.
2.
A few natural remedies for trachycardia,
  • Apple cider vinegar, about a tablespoon,
  • Blackstrap molasses about a tablespoon,
  • Cayenne pepper (or just some hot chilli if you can stomach it)
  • And a high dose of vitamin C.
  • And drink lots of coconut water
  • Take fish oil
  • Exercise regularly.
Take your 10,000 steps a day.
