How to Make Heavy Duty Garage Wall Shelves
- 1). Run a stud finder along the section of wall you've chosen to mount your shelves on. Make a pencil mark to indicate the locations of the studs behind the wall.
- 2). With the help of an assistant, place a four-feet long two-by-four board against the wall, parallel to the floor, with the top edge two feet up from the floor. Place a level on the board to make sure it is level. Screw the board into the studs at each location the board intersects them with four-inch wood screws.
- 3). Mount two more four-feet long two-by-four boards on the wall. Place the top edge of each board four feet and six feet up from the floor, respectively. Don't forget to check the level of the board with a level.
- 4). Place two four-feet long two-by-four boards on the floor, resting on the narrow side, four feet apart and parallel to each other, measuring from the outer edges of the boards. Place three four-feet long two-by-four boards on top of the first two, perpendicular to them, and spaced two feet apart. Nail the structure together with 10d nails and a hammer.
- 5). Place the structure from Step 4 upright and parallel with the boards mounted on the wall. Use an assistant if necessary.
- 6). Slide your one-by-ten inch shelf boards onto the boards parallel to the floor, tying together the wall mounted boards and the boards of the structure. Nail the boards to each other with 10d nails and a hammer.
