As I listen to the morning report on the cardiology service at Emory University Hospital, the following conditions stand out as those the doctor must know.
Every doctor must know the effect of the following conditions on the cardiovascular system.
They are commonly present as "background" problems onto which other specific conditions are grafted. This is one of the reasons there is such a wide variation of patient response to a superimposed disease.
For example, an infarction will be responsible for a greater mortality in an 85-year-old man than an infarction of the same size in a 45-year-old man.
