    Grease/Oil Remover

    • Use washing soda to remove difficult oil and grease stains on concrete surfaces, like garage floors. Pour some washing soda over the entire stain and sprinkle water over it until it forms a firm paste. Leave the mixture overnight and then use a scrubbing brush to scrub the surface the next morning. Rinse and wipe clean.

    Garden Tool Disinfection

    • Also use washing soda to clean grimy gardening tools. Just moisten a scrubbing brush with water and dip it in washing soda. Then, scrub your garden tools with the brush to remove collected dirt and soil. Allow your tools to dry in the sun. Washing soda is safe for most gardening tools, but avoid using it on aluminum tools. Washing soda may permanently damage aluminum garden tools, because sodium carbonate is highly corrosive to aluminum.

    All-Purpose Cleaning

    • To make your own household cleaner, mix natural ingredients, including washing soda, and store them in a spray bottle. Apartment Therapy recommends a mixture of 1/2 tsp. liquid soap, 1/2 tsp. washing soda, 1 tsp. Borax and two cups hot water. Mix the ingredients until they dissolve, and spray your solution over household surfaces to attack dirt, stains and mildew.

    Cleaning Flatware

    • If your silver flatware appears dull or contains difficult stains, use washing soda to clean it thoroughly. Good Housekeeping recommends that you line a plastic container with aluminum foil and lay your flatware inside, so that each piece touches the foil. Sprinkle 1/4 cup washing soda over the flatware and pour in one gallon of boiling water. Let the flatware soak for 15 minutes, remove and rinse, wearing rubber gloves.

    White Fabrics

    • Washing soda can brighten white fabrics much like bleach, but without the need for harsh chemicals. Just add 1/2 cup of washing soda to your wash cycle, as soon as you add your regular detergent.
