How to Fix Oxidation in Perming
- 1). Use a deep conditioner on your hair daily to help restore moisture. Ask a reputable stylist which product works best for your hair. Some deep conditioners just leave a residue on the hair that builds up and creates its own problems.
- 2). Reduce the amount of heat styling you do to your hair. Blow drying, curling and straightening add stress to already damaged hair. If you do use heat, put a protective product on first.
- 3). Apply an anti-frizz product before styling hair. Anti-frizz products are available to put on while hair is wet or dry. They coat the hair and help smooth dry pieces.
- 4). Color your hair back to its usual color. Oxidation in perming will often lighten hair. This can cause red hair to look brassy and blonde to look bleached. If your hair isn't damaged too badly, color over the perm. A stylist can help you determine if your hair can handle color.
- 5). Cut your hair if it is too burned and damaged to repair. If oxidation from perming damages hair beyond repair, the only fix is to cut it off and let it regrow.
