How to Upgrade Windows XP to Windows 2008
- 1). Insert the installation DVD into your DVD drive.
- 2). Click "Install Now" when prompted by the Windows 2008 installer.
- 3). Check for updates by clicking "Go Online to Get the Latest Updates for Installation." You can also perform this step after the installation is complete, if time is an issue.
- 4). Locate your product key on the installation DVD's case and enter it into the "Product key" box. Click "Next."
- 5). Select "Full Version" when asked to choose which version of the operating system you want to install, then click "Next."
- 6). Read the "Microsoft Software License Terms"; click "Next" if you agree and wish to proceed.
- 7). Choose "Custom (Advanced)" from the installation type list.
- 8). Select the hard disk you wish to install to in the "Where do you want to install Windows?" window, then click "Next." The installation begins and will run without needing your interaction for around 20 minutes.
- 9). Press "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Del" at the same time when prompted. The system will reboot.

Type "Administrator" on the login page and press "Enter." - 12
Click "OK" when prompted to change the password. - 13
Enter a new password of at least seven characters; click the arrow icon to continue. - 14
Click "OK" to confirm the password change and finish the upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 2008.
