When it comes to caring for collectible coins, it takes a lot of responsibility and patience. You don't want to expose your coins to any unwanted dirt and dust and you want to make sure they are handled properly. Some collectible coins can be worth hundreds, even thousands of dollars. You want to make sure they are stored in the safest way so you don't have to worry.

First, you should classify your coins. You maybe have found or bought them separately and should seek out how to organize them. If you bought any coin sets, that will make your job easier. Classification itself is really up to you. You can classify them by mint date, by condition, by material, or any other grouping. It's completely up to your discretion.

Collectible coins should be stored in air tight containers to keep them clean and away from dust or possibly environmental issues. If you are going to be displaying coins, make sure they have some sort of protective covering on them. It's best though to keep them in containers and only show them off when you have someone to show them to, instead of just leaving them exposed constantly.

When you handle your coins, it's best to wear latex gloves to avoid putting fingerprints on the coins. Our fingers constantly have oil and grit on them which can affect the condition of the coin as well as its color. It may be best to also handle coins by the edges to avoid damage to the front and back, especially if they are old coins.

Cleaning coins isn't always recommended, but if you absolutely must, there are some compounds you can use that will be safe for your coins. Tarnex and MS70 are popular choices for cleaning collectible coins. Of course, do your research on what cleaning materials work for which kind of coins. The last thing you want to do is ruin a coin because you used the wrong cleaner on it.

When it comes to your collectible coins, you need to treat them the absolute best. The better kept they are, the more value they'll retain. They may even increase in value over time and this is especially important if you'd seek to sell them in the future. It's also a good investment for your children that you can pass down and teach them how to properly care for as well!
