How to Paint Dry Wood
- 1). Place newspapers under your painting area to protect the ground from paint drips.
- 2). Wash your wood thoroughly with wood cleaner to eliminate dirt and debris.
- 3). Seal cracks, crevices and joints with wood putty to protect against termites.
- 4). Sand your wood with sandpaper to create a smooth, even surface.
- 5). Place painters tape over any areas around your painting surface that you wish to protect.
- 6). Evenly apply a coat of primer to your wood and allow it to dry completely.
- 7). Sand the primer.
- 8). Apply your first coat of paint and allow it to dry. If you are satisfied with the coverage, move on to the next step. If you want more coverage, sand your first coat, apply a second coat and allow it to dry completely.
