    Salary Information

    • The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn't separate telemarketing sales out of its sales employment data. But it does provide information for sales management -- including directors for telemarketing. According to the BLS, workers in this category made a median wage of $68,880 in 2010. The middle 50 percent earned between $51,310 and $97,900.

    Regional Information

    • The BLS 2010 report states that the highest demand for workers in this department for 2010 was in Texas, California, New York, Florida and Ohio. The best wages were in New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Florida. Management candidates willing to move for a telemarketing director position might consider New York and Florida, which are on both top-five lists.

    Commission and Bonuses

    • As with other sales positions, a large part of a telemarketing director's salary will be in the form of bonuses and commissions based on the sales made by his team. This is one reason a job with few education requirements can pay as much as jobs that require master's degrees. However, poor team performance can mean a very low income.

    Job Outlook

    • The BLS anticipates jobs in this field will grow at 5 percent between 2008 and 2018, slightly slower than the 8 percent predicted for U.S. occupations as a whole. This reflects sluggish domestic growth in sales as a whole, primarily due to the Internet and outsourced call centers replacing jobs traditionally held by U.S. workers.
