How to Apply Texture Paint to the Ceiling
- 1). Spread a drop cloth over the floor beneath the ceiling you will be painting. During the preparation process, chips of paint and or plaster can fall and damage your floor. A sturdy drop cloth will prevent any harm to your floor.
- 2). Identify any cracks or gaps in your ceiling. Apply patching putty to the cracks. Let the putty dry at least one hour.
- 3). Sand the putty and any other damaged areas on the ceiling. Wipe down with a damp cloth.
- 4). Add the texture mixture to ceiling paint. Follow directions on the texture package. Mix thoroughly.
- 5). Paint the ceiling with a roller, working a section at a time. Make sure the texture is evenly distributed through the paint and the ceiling is receiving a consistent amount of paint and texture.
- 6). Let first coat dry overnight. Check the ceiling for any inconsistencies and spot paint areas that need more paint and/or texture.
