    • 1). Slice the fruit, vegetables or meat into 3/16-inch strips. Trim any fat from the meat.

    • 2). Bring a pot of water to a boil and blanch the vegetables for 1 to 5 minutes until the colors become vibrant. Remove and plunge the vegetables into an ice bath to stop the cooking process.

    • 3). Mix together a marinade, if desired. Marinate the meat in a mixture of soy sauce, garlic powder, salt, pepper and honey, for example. Coat the fruit slices in sugar or leave them plain. Soak the vegetables in salted water or leave them plain.

    • 4). Remove the dehydrator trays and line them with parchment paper. Place the food slices on the paper in one layer.

    • 5). Turn on the dehydrator and set it to no more than 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Delicate foods should be kept at 75 degrees.

    • 6). Leave the slices in the dehydrator for 4 to 24 hours, depending on the amount of liquid. Check the manual for specific times, or simply wait until the slices have reached the desired consistency.

    • 7). Remove, cool and store the slices in an airtight container.
