    • 1). Press the "Sleep/Wake" button at the top of the iPod touch for about eight seconds. A red slider bar appears. Swipe the slider button across the bar to turn the iPod off. Wait for about 15 seconds, then press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button until the Apple logo appears to turn the iPod back on. If the iPod is fixed, you can stop here.

    • 2). Press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Home" button simultaneously for about eight seconds, or until you see the Apple logo. The "Home" button is at the bottom of the front screen. This resets the iPod. If this fixes the problem, you can stop here.

    • 3). Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB docking cable. Open iTunes, then click on your iPod's name under "Devices" on the left side of the window. Click the "Summary" tab at the top of the center panel.

    • 4). Click "Check for Update" to see if your iPod needs any new software. Select to download and install the update if necessary.

    • 5). Click "Restore." Choose to back up the iPod in the box that appears, then follow the prompts to complete the restoration.

    • 6). Select the option to set up the iPod from a backup in the screen that appears when the restoration is complete. Select your latest backup: this will set up your iPod exactly the way it was before it crashed.
