How to Remove Duct Tape Adhesive From Carpet
- 1). Remove the entire piece of duct tape from the carpet surfaces by gently prying it away. Try to lift straight up and then pull back to minimize the residue that will be left behind. Promptly dispose of the duct tape strip so it does not accidentally re-stick to another area of the carpet.
- 2). Scrape the area lightly with a butter or putty knife to remove as much of the sticky residue as possible. Take care not to work the substance deeper into the carpet fibers.
- 3). Moisten a cotton towel with water. Lay the towel over the spot. Lightly press a hot iron to the towel to heat up the carpet and residue beneath the towel. Hold the iron onto the towel for a minute and remove. Lift the towel and try to work the warm residue loose with your fingers. Lightly pick and pluck the glue from the carpet.
- 4). Rub the area with a commercial adhesive removal solution lightly if residue still remains. The adhesive removal solution will lift the small amount of duct tape residue that may remain.
