    • According to PayScale, as of December 2010, the national salary range for those with auditor jobs was $45,132 to $59,030. With bonuses ranging from $1,010 to $4,119 and a profit sharing range of $970 to $2,323, that makes the total pay range $43,748 to $59,570. The number of years of experience, type of employer and location can all affect the salary range of an auditor.

    Experience

    • As an auditor gains experience, takes on more clients and develops his skills, his salary range is likely to increase as well. PayScale lists an auditor with less than a year's experience as having a salary range of $42,488 to $51,537, while one with five to nine years of experience has a range of $50,797 to $72,347. An experienced auditor who has been in the business for 20 years or more enjoys a salary range of $53,651 to $89,553.

    Employer Type

    • Auditors that work for either companies or private practices earn a similar salary range of between $46,000 and $58,000 annually. The non-profit sector also employs auditors and has a salary range of $38,076 to $51,902. Auditors and accountants both also have the option of being self-employed, seeking out and maintaining their own client list. This yields the widest salary range, which is $34,000 to $82,424, according to PayScale.

    Location

    • Due to demand and cost of living, the average salary range for auditors varies from state to state. New York is the highest paying state for this profession, with a salary range of $50,714 to $68,494. California comes in second with a range of $48,412 to $62,278, and Pennsylvania is third with a range of $44,344 to $57,892.
