Puzzles, Coloring Pages, Word Searches

• Provide coloring pages showing God's Ten Commandments, puzzles explaining each command or word searches for kids to do. These fun activities will help children begin to understand the commandments and develop an appreciation for each one. For a coloring page, a picture of Moses with tablets listing the Ten Commandments is a good idea. For a puzzle, cut up a piece of paper listing all of the commandments and challenge children to put it back together. Or create a word search using the important "key" words from the commandments which signify each one, such as God, parents, husband, wife, murder, lie.
  
  

Hot Bricks Game

• Sit in a circle and pass a block around like in the game of Hot Potato. When the music stops (or time runs out), the person left holding the block must say one of the commandments. If they can't think of one, they are out of the game. Each commandment can be recited only once. Play continues until there is one person left.
  
  

Ten Commandments Song

• Teach the children the following song, sung to the tune "Father Abraham."
  
  "I am going to, going to obey
  
  Even though I don't want to.
  
  Jesus tells me to so this I'll do,
  
  So let's just all obey."
  
  Go through the first part of the song with each commandment so there are 10 different verses.
  
  

Ten Commandments Race

• Create a poster board and write the numbers 1 to 10 on the left side. Write a sentence for each commandment, leaving out a key phrase. Use one commandment for each number. Draw a line under the space in place of the key phrase. Write these missing phrases on small pieces of paper or cardstock with double-sided tape on the back. Have children break into groups. Make one board for each group. Have kids take turns trying to get all Ten Commandments right. The team that places the phrases in all the correct blanks first wins.
