Web Design and Content Writing Secrets
You can have a stunning site but without the content to match you'll never get any visitors.
Writing good content isn't hard but there are a few secrets to making it compelling.
Do you ask questions? Do your articles ask the visitor questions? Do you lead them through your ideas by asking a question and then suggesting an answer? People like to be challenged.
If you can ask a question that grabs attention then you'll have an avid reader.
Conversely if you don't ask questions and just present in a slow and long winded way you'll get now where.
If you want your web design to be worth all the effort then write good text.
Are your sentences too long? Long sentences are tedious.
Great web design and long sentences don't match.
Don't do it! Make then short.
Make them easy to read.
Generally a sentence should have no more than 12 words.
The words in the sentence should be one of two syllable.
Anything more makes it hard to read.
A word of caution.
You can't always stick to these rules.
For example in a technical environment.
However you should always, always have them in mind.
However if you think about this up front during your web design you should be able to compensate for it.
Are your paragraphs to big? Like sentences you can have annoying paragraphs.
So do your reader a favour and don't have long rambling paragraphs.
Write short snappy text.
Stuff that's easy to read.
Quick to digest.
Simple to scan.
Try to keep your paragraphs to no more than 5 lines.
Preferably use 3-4 lines.
You should also vary the length.
Have some longer and some shorter.
It looks more visually appealing.
Add pictures When your undertook your web design did you include the use of pictures.
Where possible you should.
Some places (like here) it's not possible.
But if you have the option add a great image.
Remember the saying that 1 picture equals 1000 words.
It's true! find a great picture and build your text round about it.
Finally once you've written your text let it lie for a while.
It always get better on a second and third rewrite.
