Windows 2000 Professional Features
- Windows 2000, also referred to as Windows NT 5.0, was released in February, 2000. It succeeded Windows NT 4.0 and introduced a number of features to increase capabilities within its 29 million lines of code. It migrated many of the features previously in Windows 98 to the NT file system.
- Windows 2000 introduced file protection for core operating system files. When an application overwrites or erases a system file, Windows File Protection will replace the modified file with the original. It prevents the chance of a system failure occurring as a result of missing or corrupted files.
- The Microsoft Installer operates with the Windows Installer Service to enhance and simplify the user experience. Users can install, track, configure, install or remove programs correctly to reduce errors or unwanted effects.
- Windows 2000 is available to a larger market with the capability to modify the default language for reading, creating and editing documents.
- Windows 2000 is a 32-bit operating system, which lessens application errors and system reboots. The architecture also increases multi-tasking capabilities, allowing users to operate many programs at once without noticeable performance issues.
- Windows 2000 creates a better user experience by integrating troubleshooting guides and tools to minimize the need for help desk calls and increase productivity. Various wizards are also integrated into Windows 2000 to simplify previously challenging processes such as adding network printers or setting up a local network.
