How to Hook Up a Netgear Router to Verizon Westell 6100
- 1). Turn off the computer and the Westell 6100 modem. Plug an Ethernet cable into the RJ-45 LAN port on the modem and the LAN port on the computer. Power on the modem, and press the "Reset" button located between the power jack and the LAN port. Allow the modem to boot. Once it finishes booting, turn on the computer.
- 2). Open a web browser and enter IP address "192.168.1.1" to enter the modem's setup utility.
- 3). Click "Configuration" located in the top menu, and then click "VC Configuration."
- 4). Enter your Verizon user name and password.
- 5). Click the "Edit" icon for the row that shows enable under the Status column and PPPoE under Protocol. The VC 1 configuration window will appear.
- 6). Click the "Protocol" and "Mode" drop-down menus. Select "Bridge" for both.
- 7). Click the "Set VC" button at the bottom of the window. Click "OK" to confirm. Click "OK" once more to restart the modem. Once the modem reboots, the setup page will open automatically.
- 8). Click "Configuration" in the main menu and select "DHCP Configuration." Click the "DHCP Server" drop-down menu, and select "Off." Click "Save" and then "OK" to confirm the change.
- 9). Click the "Configuration" menu and select "Private LAN Configuration." Ensure the box next to "Private LAN DHCP Server Enable" is not checked. If it is, click it to uncheck it. Click "Save" and close the browser.

Shut down the computer and the modem and disconnect the Ethernet cable from the computer. Plug the cable into the Internet port on the rear of the Netgear router. Use an additional Ethernet cable to connect one of the the LAN ports on the router to the LAN port on the computer. - 11

Open a web browser and enter "192.168.0.1" into the address field and press "Enter." The Netgear router setup utility will open. Enter "admin" for a user name and "password" for a password and click "OK." - 13
Click "Setup Wizard" in the menu. Select "No, I want to configure by myself" and click "Next." Under the Does your Internet Connection Require a Login heading, click "Yes." Under both the Internet IP Address and Domain Name Server Address (DNS) headings, select "Get Dynamically from ISP." Click "Apply." - 14
Enter your Verizon user name in the Login field and your Verizon password in the Password field. Enter "0" in the Idle Timeout field. Select "Get Dynamically from ISP" under the Domain Name Server Address (DNS) field. Click "Apply." - 15
Turn off the computer, router and modem. Restart the equipment by first starting the modem and allowing it to boot, followed by the router and then the computer. The router should connect to your Verizon DSL account automatically, and you can start surfing the Internet.
