5K Running Events in Orlando
- The Dick Batchelor Run for the Children 5K is an annual event held in January, benefiting the Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families. All entrants receive a commemorative T-shirt, and awards are presented to the top 10 male and female participants. As this is a casual event, and times are not recorded beyond the top 10 for each gender, racers are reminded to look to the finish clock for their race time. The event also offers a racewalking competition with official judges along the course. Racewalkers must designate their status before the event by registering with the Central Florida Racewalkers the day of the race.
- A race designed for Florida's corporate community, the Corporate 5K brings amateur teams from businesses and non-profit organizations together for a day or networking and running. The event is held in downtown Orlando each April. While this is a road race, nearly 60 percent of the participants are walkers. While runners must all be part of a team, unaffiliated runners can join under the umbrella of several different local runners' clubs and stores. This is a team-scored event, and awards are given for first, second and third place in the men's, women's and mixed divisions for several industry categories. Industry categories include accounting legal, advertising, media, law enforcement, banking, manufacturing, non-profits, communications, real estate, county employees, retail, theme parks, engineering, faith based, fire, state government, health, hotel & food service and insurance.
- An "off road" race, the Orlando Xtreme 5K is one of three races held each February at Orlando Wetland Park. Additional races include a 10K and a half marathon. The race gives runners the option to choose a charity from a short menu that will receive a portion of each entry fee. The race is divided into age groups starting at 8 and under, then grouped by two-year blocks up to 70 and older. Awards are given to the top three overall males and females as well as the top three in each age group. Runners will receive a race Tshirt, pre-race webinar, nutrition clinic, post-event food and drinks. The field is limited to 500 athletes.
- Just one of several races held in February at Disneyworld, near Orlando, Disney's Royal Family 5K is an annual event. The course is flat and fast and entirely on the Disneyworld Resort property. The event has a division for runners as well as a stroller division. The race is run concurrently with Disney's Princess half marathon. The race is open to all ages, but all runners must be able to maintain a 16-minute-per-mile pace. The race is for pre-registered runners only. Those entered in the race receive a T-shirt, a personalized race bib, a goody bag, a commemorative finisher medallion and post-race refreshments. Disney offers several hotel and park admission specials for participants.
- Starting and ending at Orlando's downtown YMCA, the Downtown Orlando YMCA Resolution 5K is held near the end of December each year and benefits the YMCA's Youth Scholarship Fund. The event is limited to 1,000 runners and walkers with no race day registration. Awards are given for top 10 male and females. The course is flat and fast along tree-lined city streets. Baby joggers or strollers as well as earphones and dogs are prohibited from the racecourse.
