    • 1). Insert the Windows XP Pro upgrade CD. When you insert the CD, a program will run and ask you, "What do you want to do?" Select the option to "Install Windows XP." This will start the setup wizard and take you to a screen to select the installation type.

    • 2). Choose the "Upgrade" option from the drop-down list and click the "Start" button. This will bring up the license agreement, which you must agree to, then the program will ask for the product key. Enter the product key and click "Next."

    • 3). Click the "Next" button that asks to download setup files. If you are connected to the Internet, the program will download the most recent updated files for the operating system. Setup will continue for 20 to 60 minutes installing parts of the upgrade. When setup has completed this step, it will reboot your computer, then it will continue setup with a different screen.

    • 4). Allow the setup to continue. After the reboot, the setup program will continue for another 20 to 60 minutes installing network and other required files. When it is done, the setup program will end with the "Welcome to Microsoft Windows" screen.

    • 5). Answer the various questions about your computer name, your name and time zone that are requested by the setup program. After you have answered the questions, the computer will reboot for the last time, then it will be ready for you to log in and use.
