How to Configure Web Security in Windows Vista
- 1). Click on "Start," then "Control Panel." Click on "Classic View" in the left column.
- 2). Open "User Accounts."
- 3). Click on "Manage another account."
- 4). Click on "Create a new account."
- 5). Enter a name for the account. Click on "Standard User." Do not select "Administrator." Click on "Create account."
- 6). Select the new account you created.
- 7). Click on "Setup parental controls." Select the account once more.
- 8). Click "On" under "Parental Controls." Click on "Windows Vista Web Filter."
- 9). Click on your desired level of parental controls. Note that "High" blocks access to all sites except for specified web pages, while "Medium" blocks access to "mature content." Click the check box next to "Block file downloads" to prevent file downloads. Click "OK" to save your changes.
- 1). Open "Internet Options" in the "Control Panel."
- 2). Click on the "Security" tab. Select "Internet," then click on the desired level of security. Click on "Custom Level" to manually go through each item. Always set "unsigned" or "unknown" security parameters to "Disable."
- 3). Click on the "Privacy" tab. Specify a setting for your cookies. Consider setting cookies security at a minimum of "Medium." Also enable the Pop-up Blocker and check both items ("Do not collect data" and "Disable toolbars") under "InPrivate."
- 4). Click "Advanced." Scroll down to the "Security" section. Go through each item and enable and disable according to your security needs.
- 5). Click "Apply," then "OK."
- 1). Click on "Windows Firewall" in the "Control Panel."
- 2). Click on "Turn Windows Firewall on or off."
- 3). Click the "On" button. Click on the "Exceptions" tab to exempt any currently installed programs from the firewall's rules.
- 4). Click "Apply," then "OK."
