    Achieving better composition

    • 1). Abide by the rule of thirds. Beginning photographers often center the subject of their photos. Improve composition by placing your subject in the left, right, top or bottom third of the frame.

    • 2). Move your camera. Vary the variety of your shots by shifting the camera to create vertical shots.

    • 3). Move around. Don't be afraid to break the barriers of personal space if it means a great close-up.

    • 4). Look at the work of other photographers. Observe the composition of great photos and determine what makes them compelling.

    • 5). Concentrate on the world around you. Photography is frequently about capturing the unnoticed.

    Improving photographic skills

    • 1). Get to know your camera intimately. It will help you capture special moments.

    • 2). Use natural light. A camera's flash is on one default setting, which may not apply to your lighting situation.

    • 3). If you're using the light around you, florescent or incandescent lighting can cause a yellow or blue tint in photos. Using the correct white balance will prevent tinting.

    • 4). Learn Photoshop and other photo editing tools. There are myriad online resources on understanding Photoshop. Digiterus is one example. Photoshop can help correct any flaws in the photo.
