The Castell de Montjuic was built in the 17th and 18th centuries and served as a watchtower over the city and as a prison and execution site.

Those on cruise ships docked in Barcelona have a marvelous view of the Castell de Montjuic. However, the views of Barcelona and the port area from Castell de Montjuic are even more spectacular. It is accessed via the Montjuic funicular and houses a military museum. The gardens in the area are also very nice.
