Coaches first need to be completely aware of players’ conditions or injuries that existed prior to play. For example if a player has an injury that hasn’t had enough time to completely heal you won’t want them making the injury worse by continuing to play while injured. Similarly, if an injury does occur during a game, it should be immediately checked out. Because of the fact that your players don’t want to be in the dugouts during a game they won’t often tell you when they are hurt so you as a coach must make the call. Most usually a sprained ankle or shoulder injury is only exacerbated by continuing to play. The most dangerous factor in baseball is the ball being thrown at high speeds. That’s why a batting helmet is a must, no matter the age of the player or the type of league. One thing that’s true for both practices and games is the need for a helmet for the batter to avoid pitch hits. A good idea for kids to wear during baseball play is a helmet with a full faceguard. Your head is the most important part of your body to protect.

What’s important for safety is base running. A player has many places to err when running the bases. For one thing, it’s a circular path, which is trickier than running in a straight line. The runner has to avoid colliding with the opposing infielders and also may be uncertain about whether to try for the next base or not. Knowing how to run the bases correctly is important, for this is a part of the game that can be hazardous if players forget their form or slide the wrong way. Of course, injuries can be minimized by players staying in good condition and running with Nike Free Run 2.0 [http://www.nikefreeuk.com/nike-free-run-2-0/] or other aerobic activity off the field. It’s a good idea to include base running as part of practice, so players know how to run without injuring themselves.

Baseball safety is not as complicated as you thought. So long as everyone remembers the basic principles, accidents can be greatly reduced. Baseball is a little deceptive in some ways, as you may be able to get away with being careless for a while, but at some point a serious injury can occur if the right gear isn’t worn or safety rules are ignored. That’s why it’s important that coaches and others supervising a game keep close watch on the field and players to make sure everyone is staying safe.
