Fingerprint Reader Tutorial
- 1). Acquire a fingerprint scanning device. Most come in one of two varieties. Capacitance-based scanners rely on electrical potentials while optical scanners use light patterns for recognition purposes. Connect the scanner to your computer or other device in your USB port.
- 2). Install any software or drivers necessary for the scanning device. They should come with your device, but drivers are also available on the Internet.
- 3). Enter your fingerprint into the system when the installation is complete by pressing your finger against the scanner. You can use your fingerprint as an alternative to a password for logging on to your devices, accessing email accounts and visiting certain websites.
- 4). Clean your scanner to ensure there are no reading errors. Apply a piece of cellophane tape to the sensor and peel it away to remove trace amounts of dust and dirt. If your scanner is still not clean, you can gently wipe the sensor with a cloth. For glass-surfaced fingerprint readers, moisten the cloth with an ammonia-based cleaner before wiping.
