What to do if Your iPod Nano Freezes
- Turn your iPod Nano off by pressing the menu button. Once your iPod powers off, turn it back on to see if the freezing issue has been resolved.
- Restart your iPod Nano by holding down the "Menu" and center buttons simultaneously and waiting to see the Apple logo (typically no longer than 10 seconds). Like restarting a computer, rebooting an iPod Nano can often fix freezing issues.
- Download the latest version of iTunes and look for updates for your iPod. Go to the iTunes menu and select "Check For Updates." If the problem has happened before, Apple may already have created a software fix for the issue. After you install the new version of iTunes, connected your iPod to your computer. If there is a software update, your computer will display instructions.
- If your iPod still freezes, restore its factory settings. This will wipe your data and return your iPod to the way it was when purchased. Restoring factory settings often corrects software issues your iPod has built up over time, and gives you a fresh start. Restore settings by selecting your iPod from the iTunes list and clicking the button marked "Restore."
- Contact Apple if you have restarted and restored your iPod and are still having problems. An Apple Store staffer might be able to find the problem on the spot -- or if not, perhaps even replace or repair your iPod.
