According to the owner and operator of a Houston-area cruise company, the public generally believes the region was "devastated by Hurricane Ike" in late 2008. In reality, cruise operators came through the storm in good shape and are as ready to book a cruise as they ever were. "We are here. None of our boats got damaged," reportrs Captain John Litchfield, owner and CEO of Majestic Ventures, in 2010. Some yacht operators regularly offer dinner cruises to the public.

    Star Fleet Yachts

    • Star Fleet Yachts has a fleet of five boats with capacities ranging from 12 to 150 people. They offer themed public dinner cruises on weekends as well as private bookings for corporate events, weddings and the like. As many as three public dinner cruises are offered on Saturdays. For private bookings of events for more than 150, Star Fleet Yachts will raft together yachts so they travel in tandem and guests can walk back and forth between them.

    Majestic Ventures

    • Majestic Ventures offers private charter cruises the majority of the time and public cruises occasionally. "We all do public cruises on the holidays," Litchfield says. "But there's no real regular goes-out-every-day thing." The boarding point for Majestic Ventures is near the Kemah Boardwalk, about 25 miles south of Houston and 25 miles north of Galveston. There are four boats in the Majestic Ventures fleet, accommodating 60 to 149 guests. Litchfield said the company has its own chefs and contracts whatever form of entertainment clients request. The annual Holiday Lights Parade, held in December, is a popular event that draws yachts decked out in lights for the holiday season, Litchfield says.
