A couple who enjoy hiking, gardening and other interactions with nature can show that love in their wedding reception decorations. Find soil, mulch or even smooth, clean rocks to distribute in vases and top them with hand-picked flowers (or even flower petals). These can make a pretty and inexpensive centerpiece for each table. Make sure anything on the table is contained in a bowl, tray, vase or other container to keep decorations from interfering with someone's meal.

Consider a bowl of fruit and vegetables from your garden or the produce section of your local grocery store as a centerpiece.

    Candy or Chocolates

While many people include sweets in their wedding receptions, most people do not build an entire decoration theme based upon the idea. Avid bakers or even a couple who have simply committed to a color scheme can use candies or chocolates as decorations.

Cups or bowls of candy can sit at each place setting or a centerpiece bowl filled with candy of a certain color or shape can decorate each table. There are inexpensive candy trees available for sale (or an inventive couple could make them) that sit in the middle of a table and provide easy access to the candy either hanging off them or stuck to them.

Cookies can also easily fulfill this roll, especially when placed in a pattern on a plate or raised dish to sit in the middle of each reception table.

    Flowers

Flowers are the most popular way couples use to decorate their receptions and an informal wedding reception is no different. The difference will be quantity---an informal reception will likely use fewer flowers than a formal one and arrange them for maximum impact. Instead of stringing flowers along the edges of a table, use one or two flowers to emphasize the beauty of the event.

While roses are the quintessential wedding flower of choice, couples shouldn't feel limited when choosing flowers for decoration pieces. Daisies, tulips, lilies and even baby's breath by itself can accentuate an informal wedding reception. Use flowers (or flower petals) in the center of each table, either scattered by themselves or in a vase. Try a flower across a plate of cold cuts or other appetizers. Either way, you'll have a beautiful and classic reception decoration with a twist.
