How to choose a new navigation and entertainment system for your car
In this article you may find an idea of how to choose an in-dash navigation receiver. If you do it the same way as I have, you will keep the whole family happy.
Recently I had a look at these new in-dash entertainment systems. When I searched online I was amazed to find how many different make and models of these systems there are on the market today.
So how do you decide which one is best for you. It's hard to know which one will suit you best, as they all seem to have so many different features and functions, it can get a bit mind boggling.
I suppose the only way is to figure out what you want out of these units and write these points down. Do you need the GPS navigation or the entertainment part of the system, maybe its both.
The GPS systems can have TomTom or Garmin navigation incorporated. There are only slight differences between these two nav systems. After looking at the specifications for both systems, I chose the Garmin, just because of the ECO function.
Reducing your carbon footprint is a good idea, as well as saving you a bit of money on gas costs. Not to say that the TomTom is no good, on the contrary, it has some great features of it's own. It just depends on what is most beneficial to you.
I am not the bothered about music and movies, so the entertainment part of the system I left the choice of features to the kids. Besides how can I watch when I'm driving? CD and DVD player incorporated, so they can play their music and movies on the long journeys we take every summer, touring the country.
The kids did mention that they could plug in their ipods and watch any movies that they had stored. All sounds double dutch to me. The one redeeming feature of the entertainment system for me, is that it has dual zone audio, phew! what a relief.
I don't have to listen to kids movies again. The kids can listen to their own music in the back.
The Pioneer avic-x920bt was the system we decided on, me for it was the navigation system and for the kids the entertainment. I can also make hands free phone calls, which is great for me, as I have to keep in touch with the office on a regular basis.
A great safety feature, making and receiving phone calls while keeping your hands on the steering wheel, at any time, but especially with the kids in the car. All in all I am very happy with my new receiver.
